Aside from the fact that this condition can also be genetic, asthma being a recurring and long lasting ailment makes it impossible to cure.

But asthmatics should not lose hope as this condition is very manageable as long as you know how. There are thousands or maybe even millions of asthmatics all over the world enjoying their life to the fullest without worrying about attacks because of proper treatment and care.

Getting rid of asthma might be impossible as of the moment, but getting rid of your triggers and working along with your doctor to prevent further attacks isn’t. But it is important that as early as now you already know what it will take in order to gain greater control over your condition. Because results will not happen overnight, you will need patience and perseverance and full knowledge of your condition in order accomplish long lasting relief.

The first step that you will need to make will be to learn anything and everything concerning asthma. From the basic definition up to the treatments that you are undergoing or might be undergoing in the future, including all of the possible long and short term effects on your body.

Next would be the actions that you will be taking. Your individual action plays as big a role as the rescue and relief medications that you are taking. Know all of your possible triggers so that you will be able to have a readily available course of action for each situation.

Proactively participating in your treatment process by taking down information about your condition during and even before an attack will help clinicians determine your unique condition better allowing for changes or modifications that will maximize the effectiveness of your treatment.

Search for alternative treatments that can work well with your prescribed medication. Alternative treatments in forms of exercise, breathing exercises, vitamins, herbs and home remedies might not cure your asthma or directly stop attack, but they will be able to strengthen your immunity and make you more resistant to episodes caused by your triggers or by underlying conditions such as flu and colds. Be sure though that you get your doctor’s advice first to avoid any unnecessary incidents.

How fast and how far your improvement will go, depends on the actions that you take and how well you stick to your treatment plan. What’s important is, you do not lose hope, “getting rid” of asthma is very possible as long as you are prepared to make a few sacrifices in exchange for an attack and worry free life in the future.

Asthma cannot be cured. As bad as this may sound, and no matter how many people try to disagree, the fact is, there is really no cure for asthma, at least not for the moment anyway. Asthma being a chronic disease is recurring and long lasting, think of it as a volcano, it goes dormant but if left ignored, it can erupt anytime.

Two: Alternatives are safe. Yes, some alternatives are indeed safe but not all. There is an alarming increase of incidents where asthmatics get rushed to the hospital after taking or undergoing a certain alternative treatment/therapy. Since there are may factors that need to be considered when taking alternative medication for asthma, add to that the complications surrounding each individual’s case, making the result unpredictable.

Asthma Treatments are Effective: well they might be, but not without your own participation in the treatment process. Without action on your part, your medication will be rendered useless; taking longer before any improvements can be felt, weakening your body’s own defense mechanism in the process making you more prone to attacks and other illnesses that might aggravate your condition.

Now that that’s taken care of, here are some of the best ways to relieve asthma:

Cup of Coffee: If you find yourself without your emergency relief medication during an attack, taking a cup of coffee will actually help. The caffeine present in coffee will help open up the airways by relaxing the muscles and the heat of the coffee will break up the mucus within the lungs making them easier to expel.

Steam therapy: During an attack steam can actually help by clearing up the airways making for easier breathing. One way would be to go into the bathroom during an attack, turning on the shower with the highest possible heat that it can offer. Allow steam to continuously fill up the entire room while deep breathing. Breathing the steam can help alleviate your attack making while waiting for help or medication to arrive.

Exercise: This is not actually a direct relief medication but can it be one of the most effective alternatives out there today. Taking time to exercise will strengthen your body and immune system making you more resilient to attacks and other ailments that might complicate or aggravate your condition. Start out with light exercises and then continue to build up as you go along. Remember never to force yourself beyond your capacity as this can trigger an attack.

There are plenty of other good tips that can help you out when you want to achieve relief over your condition. You can check internet sites or books, just remember to be open minded and rational to avoid useless tips and possible complications.
