If you have asthma and you enjoy outside activities that take you to higher elevations or much, much higher, the possible danger has certainly crossed your mind. Well, the news isn’t all bad, though it is cautionary.

Asthma is a chronic lung condition, characterized by a difficulty with breathing. People with asthma have extra sensitive or hyper-responsive airways. During an asthma attack, their airways become irritated and react by narrowing and constructing, causing increased resistance to airflow, and obstructing the flow of the air passages to and from the lungs.

There’s no question, as an asthma sufferer you’re more likely to be affected by altitude sickness than if you didn’t have the disease. However, if you’re fit and healthy, with asthma that’s well controlled, you should have no problems coping. This is, of course, provided you ascend slowly and recognize and accept your limitations.

Altitude will generally have little effect on stable asthmatics.

If your asthma is so severe that your blood oxygen is low, then air travel can put you in danger of reducing your blood oxygen level even further. That, combined with the dry, cool conditions generally encountered at high altitudes, could trigger asthma symptoms. In addition, if your destination is a high altitude, a city such as Denver for example, and you’re unaccustomed to that altitude and have little opportunity to acclimatize, you may experience heightened symptoms. As always, discuss this with your doctor ahead of time.

Now, if you’re dealing with severe asthma and you’ve been using your bronchodilator three or more times a week over the previous year, high-altitude treks can also increase your risk of an asthma attack. As already mentioned, the dry, cool conditions generally encountered at higher altitudes tend to aggravate the disease. Climbing, in and of itself, can be a very strenuous exercise which may trigger exercise-induced asthma in some people.

Then there’s your inhaler to consider. In freezing conditions, pressurized inhalers may not work properly. So before using yours, first you’ll need to warm it up using the body heat from your hands.

The best thing to do is to discuss your trip with your doctor several weeks in advance of your departure. This will allow time to work out a personal asthma action plan for the trip. This might involve increasing your preventer treatment for several weeks before the trip to give your airways extra protection, or measuring peak flow while away to determine how altitude is affecting your lung function, or even simple things like ensuring that you have enough medication and backup medication.

High altitudes do not need to be avoided. Just make certain you take some basic precautions. Humid air is certainly better for keeping your airways moist. However, the effects of dry, cool air can be prevented by keeping your asthmatic condition under close control. And some asthma sufferers, particularly those whose asthma is triggered by house-dust mites may actually find their asthma improves at higher elevations, where the dust mites can’t survive.

So ask your doctor about any high-altitude travelling you have upcoming, heed his advice, and enjoy your trip!

You feel it starting… shortness of breath, tight chest, wheezing and coughing. You’re having another asthma attack. You try to remember where you laid your inhaler… you just hope you don’t have to take steroids again and worry about how the steroids are affecting your bones. If this sounds familiar, then you know firsthand how much misery you can experience with an asthma attack.

1. What Is Asthma?

Asthma is a chronic lung disease that causes recurring periods of airway inflammation, narrowing the airways and making it difficult to breathe. More than 22 million people, 6 million of whom are children, suffer with this illness in the United States alone. Typical medical protocols for asthma involve treating airway inflammation using an inhaler with low-dose corticosteroids or taking oral medication. Asthma attacks can be triggered by many disparate events like cigarette smoke, dust, certain foods and drinks, hairspray or physical activity. These attacks can occur at anytime, making breathing pure torture. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to control your asthma symptoms and not have to worry about keeping your inhaler close at hand or treating the side effects from your medication? Well, there is a product on the market which meets these requirements exactly… Asthmamist.

2. What Is Asthmamist?

Asthmamist is a natural homeopathic spray which you use three times a day to stay on top of your asthma symptoms. Because it is all natural, Asthmamist can be used regularly without worrying about the nasty side effects which can pop up when using prescription medications. The all-natural ingredients in Asthmamist have been used by homeopathic practitioners for many years to treat lung health issues commonly associated with asthma, such as shortness of breath, tightness in the chest and wheezing. Just two quick sprays of Asthmamist under the tongue three times a day is all you need to do to control your asthma symptoms from now on. Spraying under the tongue delivers Asthmamist directly to the bloodstream, quickly dispersing the medication throughout the body.

3. All Natural Ingredients.

So if you want to unchain yourself from your inhaler and reclaim your active lifestyle, try Asthmamist. Its natural ingredients and ease of use will get you up and running, free of asthma symptoms, in no time.

Asthma is an allergic disease that affects the bronchi or air passages. Asthma is a disease that affects your lungs. It causes repeated episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and nighttime or early morning coughing. Asthma can be controlled by taking medicine and avoiding the triggers that can cause an attack. Asthma and eosinophilic bronchitis can be treated with inhaled corticosteroids, which combat inflammation in the airways to reduce asthma symptoms. Asthma is one of the leading causes of children missing school. Approximately 14 million adults and 6 million children in the U.S. have asthma. In fact, asthma is the most common chronic illness of childhood and a common reason for missed school days. Asthma is more common in boys than in girls. But after puberty asthma is more common in females. Sometimes certain triggers can bring on symptoms. It’s sensible to try to avoid these triggers as much as possible, as they will make your asthma worse. During an asthma attack, muscles around the airways tighten up, making the airways narrower so less air flows through. Inflammation increases, and the airways become more swollen and even narrower.

Asthma attacks are not all the same–some are worse than others. Asthma affects the airways, the small tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs. If you have asthma, your airways are sensitive and easily become swollen. A total of 47 patients had high levels of exhaled nitric oxide. Of those patients, 41 started using inhaled corticosteroids, and 36 noted improvement in their cough. In a severe asthma attack, the airways can close so much that not enough oxygen gets to vital organs. Common triggers include house dust mite, animal fur, pollen, tobacco smoke, cold air, viral and bacterial chest infections. Asthma coughs, on the other hand, are most often dry coughs caused by bronchial spasms. Asthma attacks come and go, with wide variation in the symptoms at different times. Many people with asthma have problems only occasionally but others struggle with it every day. Some children grow out of asthma and some people are only affected at different times of the year.

There are several types of medications available for treating asthma. Licorice Root has also been proven as an effective herb for asthma treatment. Licorice Root has been evaluated in the treatment of asthma and scientists have discovered that it assists in defeating the inflammation that constricts the airways in the asthma patient. Some of these herbs for asthma treatment include; seed of lobelia, marshmallow root, garlics and onions and other remedies on the holistic front. Herbal and homeopathic asthma treatment can be extremely effective. Used as part of a wider, holistic lifestyle management, herbal and homeopathic medicines can bring significant relief to sufferers of asthma without the side effects or other complications that often accompany conventional drugs. Biovent asthma remedy is a unique combination of herbal and homeopathic ingredients. It controls and prevents asthma attacks and assists with the management of chronic asthma. Arsen alb is a homeopathic remedy often used to prevent bronchospasm caused by cold air and in the early morning.

Herbs for Asthma Treatment Tips

1. Add Vitamin C, B6 and magnesium to your daily supplements.

2. Avoid products treated with sulphur dioxide and other preservatives.

3. Use ImmunityPlus Immune System Booster regularly to attain optimal immune functioning.

4. Keep an ‘asthma diary’ to help you to identify triggers.

5. Avoid tobacco smoke and keep your home free from dust, pollen, air fresheners.

6. Wear a scarf over your nose and mouth if you have to go out in cold air.

7. Treat colds and flu in the early stages to reduce the likelihood of an attack.

8. Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily.

9. Keep calm and practice relaxation techniques like meditation and yoga.

10. Regular exercise can help to strengthen lung functioning.

Pollution is one factor that has become increasingly common in exacerbating asthma symptoms among sufferers. Other factors include our increasingly sedentary lifestyles, our lack of exposure to dirt and germs so that we don’t build up immunities, and the like. As with the other factors, pollution can and should be controlled, to ease symptoms. Although steps are being taken to control pollution, there’s still much present in the form of car exhaust, contamination from chemical plants, and cigarette smoke, plus a myriad of other sources.

Children are perhaps most at risk for developing asthma because of exposure to pollution. This is because of their relatively small size when compared to adults. Their lungs are smaller, as are they, so that the pollution affects them more. In other words, they are exposed to the same density of pollution as adults are, but they receive a much greater concentration of it, because they are proportionately smaller than adults. Therefore, if children live in a house where smoking takes place and/or they live in an area that is smog filled, their health problems as a result of this pollution exposure will be much greater than those of the adults around them.

In addition, those who already have asthma may see symptoms getting worse than they used to be. More sufferers are needing visits to the emergency room, whereas previously, they may have simply been able to treat symptoms at home.

Simply put, pollution is an asthma trigger that can and should be reduced. Of course, we as citizens should write our public officials and make sure they keep controls in place to reduce pollution, and put them in a place where more needs to be done. Personally, we can control pollution ourselves by keeping our homes and lives as pollution free as possible, including reducing cigarette smoke and driving cars that have the lowest emissions possible. We can also take public transportation or carpool instead of driving ourselves, alone, in our cars to places we need to go to. Finally, in addition to getting public officials to put “green” power sources into place, such as solar and wind energy, we ourselves can cut down our energy consumption and thus reduce the amount of coal and oil that need to be mined to meet our energy needs. Even though we ourselves are not burning that coal and oil personally, if we use electricity in our homes, we are requiring that power plant that generates our electricity to burn coal to produce it. Therefore, we ourselves are responsible for those coal emissions as well. Therefore, we can take steps now to be prudent with our energy use, including efficient use of lighting and appliances, as well as other energy-saving measures in our homes.

In addition, ask your doctor for measures you can take to keep your own home as pollution-free as possible. In addition to his or her advice, some other methods include commonsensical things, like not smoking in your house and not letting other people smoke there, either. Use air filters in your home to reduce airborne pollutants like dust, pet dander or hair.

Finally, as stated above, drive as little as you can, carpool when you can, and use public transportation. This will cut down on smog from vehicle emissions, which is another major asthma trigger. Since asthma is also helped by exercise, if you suffer from asthma, bicycle or start walking more instead of taking your car for shorter distances. Just watch what results this will produce. Not only will the reduced pollutants in your area improve your asthma, but the exercise will help your symptoms improve as well.

Asthma can be very uncomfortable to those who have it. This can be very dangerous because it deals with your breathing pattern. The most important element that a person needs is oxygen. When you have asthma, it’s like you are being deprived of oxygen supply. Asthma can be fatal that it can even cause your life in severe cases. But hey, there’s nothing to worry because asthma attack can be controlled and avoided. The good news is that we can get rid of asthma for good. Here is how.

The first things that an asthma sufferer needs to determine are the causes and their triggers. After determining these causes and triggers, stay away from it as much as possible. If you happen to have a pet like cats, dogs or anything that has feather, hair, and fur, and it so happens that these can trigger your asthma, get rid of them if you can, if not, then at least make your home free from hair, fur, dust pollen, and feathers, etc.

Stay away from extreme temperature and humidity. This can trigger asthma symptoms and attacks. Stay as much as possible in cool places. It’s recommended that people who have asthma, if possible and if they can afford, to have an air conditioner in their room to maintain the cool temperature.

Exercise is also an important factor in managing asthma. Exercise allows your respiratory system to function well; it strengthens your lungs so you can breathe easily. Just do the gentle exercises first, then gradually work you way up to more difficult exercise as your lungs get stronger. It’s always better to have an inhaler beside you all the time for quick relief.

See your doctor as often as possible for further update about your asthma condition. Through that you can discuss further what else to do to get rid of asthma for good. You can make a diary regarding your triggers and attacks then let your doctor read it for him to asses the severity of each that you had. By knowing this information, your doctor can provide with much effective intervention regarding your asthma. And also the right medication regarding your asthma, don’t ever miss or skip your medication. Inhaler is the best remedy for quick relief; always carry an inhaler with you.

These are the best ways to manage your asthma, please be responsible enough to follow your doctor’s instructions. It may not be that easy but you need to realize that you’re also the one who’s going to benefit from it.

If you have asthma, you may find it that running or exercising is difficult.

If you want to know the secret to running better with asthma , you may find that you need an entire life change.

In some instances, changing your diet and exercise habits can allow you to run without being disturbed by closing airways and potential asthma attacks.

There are five easy steps that will allow you to master the techniques of running with asthma.

Lose The Extra Pounds

If you find yourself with a couple of extra pounds, consider losing them in order to make you run more effectively, even with your asthma.

The more you weigh, the more pressure you have on your body and lungs.

Especially if you are battling asthma, this extra pressure may be too much to handle.

Also, people who are overweight have other medical problems that can affect your asthma problems.

Once you have shed the pounds, you may find yourself running better with asthma .

Reevaluate Your Diet

Remember that you are what you eat.

Look carefully at your diet and throw out anything that is unhealthy.

Ditch the fatty, fried, sugar-coated, and all-around unhealthy foods in your panty and refrigerator.

Studies have shown that if you reduce the amount of fats that you consume, you can actually help your asthma problem.

Also, eating fresh vegetables heavy in magnesium keeps your lungs healthy and your asthma flare-ups at a minimum.

Since allergens can lead to asthma attacks, know which foods serve as your triggers and be sure to avoid those specific items.

Finally, drinking between eight and ten glasses of water each and every day will help to reduce the inflammation in your lungs.

Nix Smoking

Although no one who suffers from asthma should be smoking, you should certainly not combine smoking, asthma, and running or exercising.

If you are asthmatic and you do smoke, stop immediately.

Also, reducing the amount of alcohol that you consume on a regular basis will help you by allowing your body to become healthier.

Set Realistic Goals

If you are new to running, you are probably not aiming to break any speed records.

Instead, set a realistic goal about the distance that you plan to run and your projected pace.

Pushing yourself past your limit is often the most common trigger for an asthma attack, so take this into consideration.

If you plan on running on a regular basis, consider developing a plan that will allow you to work slowly but steadily towards your goal.

Also, practice breathing exercises that will allow you to maintain proper breaths even while running.

Know Your Limits

Everyone has their limit.

Typically, with those individuals who suffer from asthma, they have certain warning signs before a full fledged asthma attack.

Most often, a tightening feeling in the chest is the first sign that trouble lies ahead.

If your body tells you to stop, then by all means obey your body. When running on hot, humid, or cold days, you may need to change your regular routine.

During extreme weather conditions, individuals who suffer from asthma are more likely to experience some type of weather-induced asthma attack.

You should always have your asthma inhaler with you at all times, but especially when running or exercising so that you have the proper medication in the even of an asthma attack.

If there were a cure for asthma there would be many happy people in the world. However, there is no cure. Asthma can be a deadly disease if gone untreated. There are many treatments for asthma today. Most are only prescribed by a doctor. While the scientific community is searching for a cure, others are searching for new, safer medicines for asthmatics to use to relieve the often debilitating symptoms of asthma. Even so, there are new homeopathic remedies that seem to be quite effective in relieving some of the symptoms.

New Homeopathic Product

There is a new product called Asthma Mist that is not a cure for asthma, but can help keep your asthma symptoms at bay. Of course, with any homeopathic medicine, you should use caution. Some prescription medications do not mix well with herbal remedies and can cause allergic reactions. Be sure you consult your doctor before using Asthma Mist.

How It Helps

Asthma Mist claims to help relieve many asthma symptoms, such as shortness of breath, wheezing, and coughing. While it may not be a cure for asthma, it would be worth discussing with your physician. When sprayed on the tongue, its all natural ingredients go directly to the bloodstream. Unlike other asthma medications, you do not have the bad side effects.

Ingredients

The ingredients in Asthma Mist are all natural and contains many of the same ingredients found in other homeopathic remedies, but it has a special blend that targets most asthma symptoms.

The Bottom Line

When searching for an alternative asthma medicine, you may want to try Asthma Mist. Just be sure to talk to your doctor first. Even though it is not a cure for asthma, it may provide you with the relief you need without the harmful side effects.

The Future

Every day more people are diagnosed with asthma. This product looks like it could offer relief to many asthma sufferers. As more homeopathic medicines reach the market and health care cost soar, people are looking for good alternatives, and this very well may be one of them.

There are many different triggers and causes of asthma. And just as there are many triggers and causes, there are also many different remedies. Some of these asthma home remedies involve consuming different combinations of food ingredients. Two of the most beneficial ingredients are honey and ginger.

Let’s take a look at some concoctions with honey and with ginger.

Honey as a Remedy

Honey is very good for asthma. Honey helps to thin the mucus in the body and helps get the mucus out of the respiratory system. As you probably already know, mucus accumulates in the breathing passages and blocks air flow in and out of the body. This can trigger or make an asthma attack worse.

You can either take the honey by mouth or you can just breathe in the honey if an attack is beginning.

Here are some mixtures (along with how often to take them) that combine honey with other ingredients:

* One teaspoon of honey with water every day.

* One teaspoon of warm water with one quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder twice a day.

* One teaspoon of honey with half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder once a day (either morning or night).

* One tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of drumstick leaves juice, one teaspoon small onion juice, and half a teaspoon of asafetida. Mix all these things together and consume twice a day.

Ginger as a Remedy

Ginger is also very good for asthma. Ginger powder negates the effects of Platelet-Activating Factors. This means the ginger powder stops inflammation.

When mixed with certain other ingredients, it also acts as an expectorant. This means that it helps you cough-up and get rid of mucus in your respiratory system.

Here are a few mixtures with ginger in them:

* One teaspoon of ginger with one cup of fenugreek concoction once a day.

* Fresh ginger juice mixed with honey taken once a day.

* Half a tea spoon of fresh ginger, one teaspoon cumin seeds, a pinch of nutmeg, and a glass of water. Combine everything and bring to a boil. Then drink hot.

The Effectiveness of Honey and Ginger

The effectiveness of honey and ginger as an asthma home remedy has been proven over and over. However, just as everyone’s asthma is triggered by something different, everyone’s asthma is effectively treated a little differently. Therefore, you will need to test to see which one or ones work best for you.

Overall, honey and ginger are two of the most effective ingredients that you can add to any concoction. Honey helps rid the respiratory system of mucus while ginger helps stop inflammation and also helps get rid of mucus when mixed with certain other ingredients.

You must be aware of asthma triggers in order to help avoid them. If you or anyone you know or love struggles with asthma, you know how critical it is to avoid any kind of trigger that would spur on an attack.

You can take your preventative medicine, of course, but as soon as you enter a dusty room or even go outside, allergens are inhaled and your airways may constrict, causing another attack.

Many people with asthma keep an inhaler with them to prepare for going outside or into the workplace. But we cannot control these environments, unfortunately.

On a better note, you can prevent asthma triggers in your own home! The main triggers in your average household are dust mites, molds, and pollens.

Dust mites may be the most common asthma trigger at home. How can you protect yourself? Wash your bedding in hot water every week and make sure your pillows and bedding don’t contain feathering. Non carpeted floors are great because they are easily cleaned. If you don’t have hardwood floors, vacuum more often with an allergen proof vacuum bag. MAKE SURE TO WEAR A MASK WHILE VACUUMING! Remember to keep clean air filters installed for your heating and air and cover air ducts with cheesecloth for extra protection. Remember what I said about washing your bedsheets in hot water? Do the same for your curtains every week! This may seem tedious, but it’s worth it to have a dust-free home! And, as usual, keep surfaces and lampshades cleaned. Don’t forget to wear that mask!

What about asthma triggers caused by mildew? How do you keep it from growing in your home? Where do we encounter mildew the most at home? Bathrooms! Clean your bathrooms regularly using cleaners that kill and prevent mold. If you feel like taking a hot shower, make sure to open the bathroom door or window to air it out. Nothing causes mildew more than too much humidity. Do you have a bathroom rug? After that hot bath or shower, make sure to immediately remove it and set it outside to air out and dry. Have a rug in front of the toilet? Get rid of it. Make sure to air our the damp and humid areas of your home regularly. Buy a dehumidifier if needed! Keep household plants OUT of the bedroom.

Lastly, remember to avoid those pollens. They may be difficult to avoid completely, but there are a couple of things you can do to cut down on exposure to them. Limit your exposure to the outdoors in the morning as the pollen counts are highest in the early morn. This is especially the case when the weather is warm and dry. Most importantly, and you may already have figured this one out, keep your windows shut.

Most people with asthma don’t have pets. For those of you who do, make sure to restrict your pet’s living area in the home. Once you find a main dwelling area for your pet, make sure to pull up any carpet if there is any. Do not allow it in the bedroom, and if possible, keep the pet outside. Like those bedsheets and curtains, put on your mask and wash your dog or cat weekly in hot water (not too hot!!!). If you are visiting a friend or relative’s house and they are indoor pet owners, avoid long visits. Exposure to the pets should be kept to a minimum or completely avoided. And, as usual, take your medicine before entering the home.

These procedures may seem tedious, but once you make it a habit to follow them, the decrease of asthma triggers will give your system a break from excessive stressors in your living space. In addition, there’s nothing like having a clean environment to come home to! Breathe easy, my friends and take care!
