Hypoglycemia is a condition that results when blood sugar drops at very low levels. Although the symptoms for hypoglycemia can vary from person to person, the most common symptoms of this condition includes the feeling of tiredness, nervous, sweaty and may lead you to feel irritable and impatient. You may also experience being a little shaky, hungry or confused.

If you have Type 1 diabetes, you may also be more prone to having hypoglycemia. Thus, it is important that you have to let your family members, housemates or friends know or that you are diabetic or you have low blood sugar so they will also know what to do in cases when you are not capable of telling them. If you want to get rid of hypoglycemia or if you want to lower your chances of suffering from such condition, here are 5 tips that you might find useful.

1. Learn the causes of hypoglycemia. It is when you know the causes that can help you fight it off from the start. Hypoglycemia can occur if you skip meals or you delay eating your meals. Eating too little can also trigger hypoglycemia as well as drinking alcohol, thus if you want to get rid of this condition, make sure you avoid these culprits as well.

2. If your blood sugar is low, which you can determine by testing it, you can also help yourself by eating carbohydrates right then including some fruit juice. Supplying your system with sugar in the form that are easily absorbed by the body, can help you regain balance. One important thing to keep in mind is to take in sugar that is easily be absorbed by the body and not those in the form of complex carbohydrates that may take time.

3. Explore alternative treatments. Although there are medical ways on how to treat hypoglycemia, it also helps to explore the alternative treatments. Acupressure is one of the alternative treatments that can help you overcome hypoglycemia.

4. Eat small but frequent meals throughout the day. This will help you attain that balance in your blood sugar level. Aside from this, you also have to take note of what you are eating. You may need to increase foods with fiber as well as complex carbohydrates.

5. See your doctor for underlying problems you have with hypoglycemia. Of course, one of the ways on how to treat hypoglycemia is to make sure that the underlying conditions are also treated.

Even before trying to find treatments for hypoglycemia, it is important that you are correctly diagnosed with the disorder. It is important that you are being diagnosed correctly.

You may also ask advice from your doctor on supplements that you can take to help you overcome hypoglycemia as well. But of course, the best treatment is always prevention. Eat small but frequent meals, do not skip pr delay your meals, avoid drinking alcohol and make sure that you eat a balanced diet.

Which came first, the shaky, weak, anxiety sensations or the drop in blood sugar levels?
Sometimes it’s rather difficult to tell since they are so closely related, and so here are a couple of tips that might help someone dealing with anxiety reactions and low blood sugar levels.

There are two ways of approaching hypoglycemic reactions. One is appropriate for a sudden hypoglycemic crash and the other as a prevention method. Both work to help maintain a calm and less reactive mind and body.

There are many ways to maintain balanced blood sugar levels and prevent hypoglycemic crashes:

PREVENTION
- Eat less sugar and avoid it altogether (slowly withdraw) if you have frequent episodes of hypoglycemic attacks.
- Always rule out a physical cause for hypoglycemic attacks.
- Avoid sodas, juices, candies, cakes and all other refined and processed products high in sugar.
- Make sure you learn how to use meals that work for you rather than against you. Include a lean protein, good fat along with whole grain, fiber rich carbohydrates. Follow the Anxiety Neutralizing Diet for details.
- Choose to eat 6 smaller meals rather than 3 larger ones. This will aid in stabilizing blood sugar levels.
- Hydrate with pure water all day.
- Maintain an effective plan to lower stress in daily life. Check out Anxiety Busters Program.
- AVOID Caffeine, Nicotine, Simple Sugars.
- Learn how to “counter” carbs without giving up the foods you love. Simple effective method.
- Learn how to use the glycemic index to your best advantage.
- Use good oils (extra virgin olive oil) and natural peanut butters.
- Never skip a meal or go beyond 4 hours without eating (unless asleep)
- If you must have a sweet snack every so often, learn how to counter with carbohydrates as explained in our program.

Suggestions for Mid-Morning, Mid-Afternoon and Bedtime Snacks
Turkey and Whole Grain Crackers
Tuna on Rye
Cheese and whole grain crackers
Nuts, Seeds and Low Glycemic Fruits (berries, melons, apples)

*Avoid foods that rank 60 or above on Glycemic Index (included in program).
* Avoid Caffeine AND Decaffeinated Beverages since they do contain small to medium amounts of caffeine.

SIGNS OF BLOOD SUGAR CRASH

If by chance you have experienced a hectic day filled with a large work load (mental activity) and/or heavy physical work, stressed, rushed off without eating, or ate too many sugars, you might soon begin to feel:
- shaky
- weak
- anxiety, panic
- nausea
- dizzy
- irritable
- clumsy
- brain fog
- faint
- irregular heartbeat.

This is indicative of an attack of acute hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. The best and fastest treatment is as follows.

TREATMENT FOR LOW BLOOD SUGAR (ACUTE HYPOGLYCEMIA)
- Drink 3-4 ounces of fresh orange juice
- Wait 15 minutes and if symptoms are still strong, take another 3-4 ounces of orange juice.
- Follow this by a lean protein and good fat/good carbohydrate. Example Cheese on Rye, Chicken on Whole Wheat Pita or Glass of Milk and Peanut Butter on Whole Grain Cracker.

*Normally during the prevention stage you would not drink orange juice, unless 1/2 water, 1/2 juice, but during this acute stage the body needs a quick charge of natural sugar to restore balance. The protein that follows will help maintain an even blood sugar level as it metabolizes slowly.

It is certainly better to prevent hypoglycemic crashes than having to treat it. Therefore it is important to follow all the suggestions to maintain stabilized blood sugar levels.

Hypoglycemia is a disorder that occurs when you have low blood sugar levels and it can cause you to become sweaty, hungry, confused, tired, nervous, impatient and irritable. If you are diabetic, you may also be prone to developing such disorder.

If you have been diagnosed of having hypoglycemia and you are looking for treatments that you can do at home, here are some of the few things that you might find useful in fighting hypoglycemia.

- Eat carbohydrates and sugar if you have been feeling the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia. It helps to take sugar that are easily absorbed by your body to help you achieve a balance blood sugar level than those that may take time for the body to absorb. Among the foods that can be helpful if you have a low blood sugar are fruit juices, sugar, honey, candy or regular soda. Sugar in cakes and cookies may take time to be absorbed by the body, thus they may not provide quick boost of blood sugar level

- Prevention is considered the best treatment for hypoglycemia. If you want to get rid of this condition, it is important to learn how to prevent it from occurring. In fact, you can actually avoid the causes of hypoglycemia and enjoy a healthier life. Skipping meals for example can be a cause of hypoglycemia but keep in mind that by eating on time, you can help yourself avoid hypoglycemia. Avoid skipping your meals or delaying your meal time. Cut down or totally avoid alcoholic drinks. Alcohol can also be a cause of hypoglycemia, which you can totally avoid.

- Eat a balanced diet. Whether you have hypoglycemia or not, having a well-balanced diet is always beneficial to your health and your body. If you have been diagnosed with hypoglycemia, you can also increase foods in your diet that are high in glucose.

- Have yourself treated for any underlying diseases that may occur together with your hypoglycemia. Indeed, if you want to get rid of this condition, you have to find a treatment for hypoglycemia that does not only get rid of the symptoms and signs but also treats other diseases that may have brought about your hypoglycemia.

- Increase your immune system by supplementing your body with vitamins. However, it is important that you also consult your doctor for the appropriate vitamin supplementation that you may want to have.

- Have regular exercise but do not overdo it.

- Avoid stress. Stress is indeed detrimental to one’s health, and it can also worsen any condition that you are in. As most of the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia are the same with stress, it is better to manage everyday stress in your life to get rid of hypoglycemia as well.

- Wear a medic alert bracelet if you are diagnosed with hypoglycemia. It is also important that you inform your family and friends of your condition so they can also help you in times when hypoglycemia strikes and you are not able to tell them what you need.

Learn more about hypoglycemia as your knowledge on your condition is a big factor on how to treat it and manage it as well.

It is essential to get treatment for hypoglycemia, which is characterized by the decrease of blood sugar levels also known as glucose, below normal range. The normal blood Glucose Levels in people who do not have diabetes: upon waking is 70 to 99 mg/dL and after meals is 70 to 140 mg/dL.

For those that have diabetes, the normal range before meals is 70 to 130mg/dl and 1 to 2 hours after the start of a meal below 180 mg/dL. The American Diabetes Association is a great resource for more information.

Hypoglycemia is most prevalent in people with diabetes. An episode will usually occur as a side effect to many diabetic medications. Proper medication dosage is crucial to maintain appropriate blood sugar levels.

Those with diabetes are instructed to test their levels with a glucose monitor several times a day to prevent abnormally low or high glucose levels. It can also be brought on by an improper diet or extreme physical activity.

Hypoglycemia can happen suddenly. It is usually mild and can be treated quickly and easily by eating or drinking a small amount of glucose-rich food. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include shakiness, anxiety, heart palpitations, sweating, dilated pupils, coldness, feeling of fainting, and clamminess. These symptoms are triggered by the loss of glucose that affects the brain.

As hypoglycemia continues, neurological symptoms may include difficulty speaking, slurred speech, fatigue, anxiety, lethargy, delirium, headache, stupor, abnormal breathing and finally, coma. Severe cases may also result in death.

Immediate Treatment for Hypoglycemia

Anyone experiencing a hypoglycemic episode should immediately be given 3 – 4 glucose tablets if available or ½ cup of fruit juice. Candy or a tablespoon of honey will also suffice to immediate raise their glucose levels. A glucose meter should always be used to ensure that the blood sugar level has risen above 70mg/dl.

For the most part, a mild case of hypoglycemia will be corrected with any of these stated methods.Someone that is experiencing a severe episode should be taken to an emergency room immediately. Medical intervention may be needed to raise their glucose levels to an acceptable range. In many cases, hypoglycemia is nothing to be concerned about. It can simply be the reaction of malnutrition or fasting.

Many people experience hypoglycemia without even knowing it. If it continues to be a problem, however, many people will seek medical attention to determine the underlying cause of the illness. An adjustment to their medication may be necessary as a preventive treatment for hypoglycemia.

Hypoglycemia has different variations and reactive hypoglycemia is one of them. Reactive hypoglycemia is a condition where your pancreas produces insulin in excess of the food you have consumed. This insulin surge will cause your blood sugar to fall below normal level, resulting in hypoglycemia.

The signs and symptoms of reactive hypoglycemia are the same with all forms of hypoglycemia: dizziness, fatigue, mental confusion, hunger, heart palpitation, etc.

Reactive hypoglycemia does not require any form of medical treatment. However, you should make some adjustment to your diet. The type of food you eat will directly affect your pancreas reaction and consequently, your blood glucose level. Thus, a proper diet is crucial in keeping hypoglycemia at bay.

To begin with, high Glycemic Index (GI) food should be avoided as they are absorbed very quickly into the bloodstream. This rapid absorption will often trigger an overreaction from your pancreas, producing large amounts of insulin to combat the rising blood sugar level. This overdose of insulin will cause your blood sugar level to plummet below normal level, bringing on symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, fatigue, etc. Hence, you should avoid consuming high GI foods.

A few examples of high GI foods are corn flakes, white bread, white rice, sugar, etc. Generally, the more processed a food is, the higher its GI. The rationale here is that processed or refined foods are usually poor in fiber and vitamins as they are often lost in the production process. Fibre is essential because they slow down the digestion process, thereby releasing sugar more slowly into the blood stream.

When you suffer from hypoglycemia, you should pay extra attention in your diet. An improper diet is often the main cause of hypoglycemia as it forces the pancreas to produce excess insulin.
Regarding hypoglycemia treatment, there is a doubt arousing question to feel whether we have any chance for natural treatment. Hypoglycemia treatment is associated with lowering blood glucose but differs from diabetes, though it is a result of diabetic condition. When you suspect hypoglycemia, you should approach a specialist for treatment. The sugar level drops too low when the insulin dependent diabetics take added insulin.

Signs and symptoms of Hypoglycemia:

Hypoglycemia symptoms are mostly the same as for high blood sugar but the treatment differs. The symptoms include shakiness, giddiness, sweating, feeling fatigue and tingling sensation in the fingers. You cannot confirm these symptoms necessarily to be due to hypoglycemia but may also be due to feeling nervousness and anxiety. I’m sure you are interested not in knowing the causes of hypoglycemia but about the treatment. Since you have a little knowledge about controlling blood glucose and its effects in your body, you may choose hypoglycemia treatment with no pains. Yes, you are right to be so and I’m pleased to call your attention to the treatment of hypoglycemia as below.

1. The basic treatment implies to mind how often and how much you take normal food. You should not allow your stomach to be empty making the blood glucose level drop. Here you shouldn’t mistake to take more quantity in one spell or fill your stomach frequently even for a light symptom of emptiness. Take measured quantity of food with time space not more than three to four hours.

2. Protein is sufficiently needed in hypoglycemia treatment to help regulating low glucose level. The food items rich in protein include meat and dairy products. You may have a few pieces of cheese and some slices of peanut butter cake.

3. Vitamins are needed in the natural treatment of hypoglycemia to enhance good metabolism and immunity power. Specifically, Vitamin B is needed for promoting digestive power and Vitamin E for increasing wounds healing immunity power. These vitamins are rich in fresh vegetables and some fruits with nuts.

4. Most instances of hypoglycemia can naturally be combated to cure simply by eating foods that contain carbohydrates adequately. If you are diagnosed with hypoglycemia, these foods should be sufficiently added as natural treatment.

5. Physical exercises have an important role in the treatment of hypoglycemia. Indulging in over exercises and exhausting the body to fatigue condition cannot be good for hypoglycemia treatment.

If it is not cared for blood sugar level monitoring around the clock, you are liable for unconsciousness. If it is repeating, you need consulting a physician for hypoglycemia treatment as first aid medication. Achieving a little control of low sugar, you can start your natural treatment.

Controlling blood sugar is an art.
Tip 1: Eliminate refined foods

You have to – and there are no exceptions – drastically reduce the standard American processed food diet. Eliminate for starters, all highly refined foods such as pastries, cakes and white breads. The body treats these as sugars and it upsets your blood sugar balance.

Tip 2: Increase Your Fiber Intake

Avoid hunger cravings by increasing the fiber in your daily diet. By eating more vegetables the energy in your food is more slowly released without the onset of extreme hunger pangs, which highly refined foods bring on after a few hours.

Tip 3: Get Exercising

Exercise is essential and the solution to burning fat. This does not mean flat-out one hour per day in the gym. It does mean stretching and using your walking muscles every day for 12-15 minutes. Not long at all. This is one of the important steps in hypoglycemia treatment. You probably didn’t know that there are parts of your internal organs, which do not function properly without mild exercise?

By just starting on the change in your lifestyle with these 3 tips a change to your signs of low blood sugar will be seen. There are many other changes that need to be made to fully conquer all symptoms of low blood sugar.

Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar is a problem that is much over-looked by many doctors today. Hypoglycemia can be due to alimentary problems, idiopathic causes, fasting, insulinoma, endocrine problems, extrapancreatic causes, hepatic disease, and miscellaneous causes. Sometimes the cause of hypoglycemia is unknown (idiopathic). In these cases, people who are not diabetic and who do not have another known cause of hypoglycemia experience these symptoms. Hypoglycemia can produce a variety of symptoms and effects but the principal problems arise from an inadequate supply of glucose as fuel to the brain, resulting in impairment of function ( neuroglycopenia ). Insulin is a hormone that reduces blood glucose. It is produced by the pancreas in response to increased glucose levels in the blood. The symptoms of hypoglycemia can vary from person to person, as can the severity. Hypoglycemia, also called low blood sugar, occurs when your blood glucose (blood sugar) level drops too low to provide enough energy for your body’s activities. There is another type of hypoglycemia. In some people, the body simply responds differently to the digestion of foods. Some foods are digested and absorbed rapidly, resulting in a burst of glucose entering the bloodstream. Classically, hypoglycemia is diagnosed by a low blood sugar with symptoms that resolve when the sugar level returns to the normal range.

Hypoglycemia is relatively common in diabetics. In people who don’t have diabetes, some underlying causes of hypoglycemia include: certain medications; alcohol; certain cancers; critical illnesses such as kidney, liver or heart failure; hormonal deficiencies; and disorders that result in your body producing too much insulin. A rare type of hypoglycemia, known as reactive hypoglycemia, may occur in children and teens without diabetes. Some symptoms of hypoglycemia are caused when the body releases extra adrenaline (epinephrine), a hormone that raises blood sugar levels, into the bloodstream to protect against hypoglycemia. If you take in more glucose than your body needs at the time, your body stores the extra glucose in your liver and muscles in a form called glycogen. Your body can use the stored glucose whenever it is needed for energy between meals. Patients with pre-diabetes who have insulin resistance can also have low sugars on occasion if their high circulating insulin levels are further challenged by a prolonged period of fasting. Hypoglycemia can arise from many causes and can occur at any age. The most common forms of moderate and severe hypoglycemia occur as a complication of treatment of diabetes mellitus with insulin or oral medications. The adrenergic symptoms often precede the neuroglycopenic symptoms and, thus, provide an early warning system for the patient. Studies have shown that the primary stimulus for the release of catecholamines is the absolute level of plasma glucose.

Causes of Hypoglycemia

The common causes and risk factor’s of Hypoglycemia include the following:

Hypoglycemia occurs when too much insulin or oral antidiabetic medication is taken, not enough food is eaten, or from a sudden increase in the amount of exercise without an increase in food intake.
Pregnancy.
Renal glycosuria.
Increased activity or exercise.
Excessive drinking of alcohol.
Hypoglycemia may result from medication changes or overdoses, infection, diet changes, metabolic changes over time, or activity changes; however, no acute cause may be found.

Symptoms of Hypoglycemia

Some sign and symptoms related to Hypoglycemia are as follows:

Hunger.
Nervousness and shakiness.
Headache.
Dizziness or light-headedness.
Heart palpitations.
Tremor.
Excessive sweating.
Sleeping difficulty.
Cold sweats.
Rapid heart rate.
Pale skin color.
Sudden moodiness or behavior changes, such as crying for no apparent reason.

Treatment of Hypoglycemia

Here is list of the methods for treating Hypoglycemia:

A snack or drink containing sugar will raise the blood glucose level, and you should see an immediate improvement in symptoms.
Eating smaller meals more frequently.
To treat low blood sugar immediately, your child should eat or drink something that has sugar in it, such as orange juice, milk, or a hard candy.
Regular exercise.
In more serious cases, the child may have to undergo surgery to remove the pancreas.
Episodes of reactive and fasting hypoglycemia in children without diabetes can also be treated with a fast-acting carbohydrate.
Patients may require 6 small meals and 2-3 snacks per day.
If you pass out, you will need IMMEDIATE treatment, such as an injection of glucagon or emergency treatment in a hospital.

Is your life similar to that of like being on a roller coaster never knowing how you are going to be feeling from one day to the next. Well perhaps your like many and have the classic hypoglycemia signs. Do you wake up in the morning feeling as thou you have a giant hangover, knowing that you have not had a drink in ages. This also depending on whether he could sleep the night before due to prolonged bouts of insomnia.

The signs of hypoglycemia symptoms can be varied, with things like depression, severe mood swings, chronic fatigue, cravings for sweet food at any time day or night, migraine headaches, and one person described it as thou his body was out of control to the point he became distressed and disorientated.

There are many more classic hypoglycemia signs like personality change, blurred or double vision, nausea, shakiness, palpitations, sweating with a high body temperature. Then you have the direct opposite where you have a feeling of coldness, and how your skin feels clammy. Also you suffer with amnesia, slurred speech, abnormal breathing, and in extreme circumstances it can even lead to a coma.

The hypoglycemia symptoms can be so varied it would be difficult for a doctor to diagnose, and your doctor can only diagnose you if he has a full list of symptoms which would then give him a clue as to what is happening to your body. At the same time he would then arrange for a blood test which should show him what the problem is.

Through medical tests it has been proved that a lack of glucose to the brain can do weird things hence the craving for sweet things as your body tells you that you need it. Sometimes these hypoglycemia signs and symptoms can be mild in their effects, and that when they happen there would be no real damage to the brain. In normal circumstances it’s only when the patient gets older that permanent damage to the brain will happen.

In some cases hypoglycemia occurs in hospitals where the patient gets hypoglycemia as a secondary illness after things like major surgery, or sometimes where the patient has gone through a traumatic experience and is in intensive care or in similar situations.

It has also been proved that hypoglycemia is the next step to diabetes, and if the symptoms are ignored the patient can be in all sorts of problems.

Please note that I am not a doctor, or anything to do with the medical profession, and if you think you have symptoms as described please make an appointment with your own doctor.

Hypoglycemia is a common problem for diabetics. The most common sign of hypoglycemia is scarce blood sugar in the body. Actually, hypoglycemia causes the blood sugar to pass, out via urine. This is notwithstanding the fact that different persons suffering from this dysfunction may have different types of symptoms. Mentionably, hypoglycemia retraces its steps the moment the blood sugar level turns normal.

Sugar is a good slave but a very taxing master. Sugar is one of the main sources of energy or fuel for the body. Now, our body extracts sugar from the meals we have. Sugar can be carbohydrates which is a complex form of this stimulating source or just plain sugar. It is rather interesting to note that our body always keeps a buffer stock of sugar in the liver. This vital storehouse of sugar is called glycogen. This storage of sugar provides ready backup of sugar during exigencies when the body badly needs to look for sugar reinforcements. Mention may be made of some really trying times as too much of physical labor or during long periods of fasting. Further, the body releases the requisite additional quota of sugar via a complex biochemical procedure. This method is known as gluco-neo-genesis. Its simplest meaning is to produce new sugar. What is more, the process changes the glycogen into sugar.

So we see how important sugar is for our body. Hypoglycemia happens whenever the body fails to regulate or supply such emergency sugar reinforcements. These problems appear due to malfunctioning of our pancreas. During such times, the natural capacity of the body to produce insulin gets affected. Our body’s blood sugar level is automatically kept under control by insulin. This hormone secreted by the pancreas carries out the job by lowering the blood sugar level the moment it crosses the danger stage. In a normal human being, the pancreas is the sentinel ever on vigil against the attacks of excessive blood sugar. The method is akin to the radiator fan in your car which starts automatically whenever the engine gets heated up beyond the requisite level.

Hypoglycemia is intimately connected with the typical metabolic ailment known as Diabetes mellitus. The ailment, diabetes, can definitely be kept under control but cannot be cured by the modern-day medications. It is a medical state that is chronic. In simple words, diabetes or hypoglycemia remains a person’s lifetime mate.

Diabetics usually posses high levels of sugar in their blood stream. Incidentally in the good olden days, diabetes was initially identified with ‘sweet urine’ and too much loss of muscles. Such sweet urine is the result of hypoglycemia when the body produces glucose more than its requirement. What is more, the excess glucose gets circulated in the blood. Only when the pancreas is functioning normally can its insulin hormone control the high level of blood sugar.
Patients suffering from diabetics (Types 1 and 2) complain of hypoglycemia. A person suffering from hypoglycemia generally encounters problems in controlling the blood sugar level. This again results because that person’s pancreas failed to either produce the sufficient quantity of insulin or totally failed to produce any insulin. The consequence is hyperglycemia.

There are many causes of hypoglycemia. Diabetics undergoing long periods of fasting can have hypoglycemia. This happens because their levels of insulin circulate fast. And, the fasting phase suddenly brings down this high circulating level. Moreover, certain drugs can also trigger off hypoglycemia. Even those persons who have inbuilt resistance to insulin may complain of hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia can be caused also by certain tumors which produce insulin. Such tumors are called insulinomas.
